Scott Swift underwent quintuple bypass surgery earlier this year, with his daughter Taylor Swift rushing to be by his side as he recovered, even moving back in with her dad
Taylor Swift has shared details about her father’s scary heart surgery, admitting she moved in with him to support him as he recovered.
Scott Swift, 73, had quintuple bypass surgery earlier this year, with Taylor admitting it was “really intense.” The singer-songwriter opened up about the ordeal during an appearance on her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast.
“It all happened really quick,” Taylor recalled. The 35-year-old explained her dad had a “perfect EKG” whenever he went to the doctor for his annual physicals. After undergoing a cardiac stress test, however, doctors found five blockages in his heart.
Since then, Scott’s been telling his friends, ‘You need to get the stress test because that’s what’s actually preventative.’ Taylor shared, “If you can find that earlier, you don’t have to have a bypass surgery.
“You can sort out those blockages with stents and things that are a lot less invasive.” When Scott was preparing for his surgery, he insisted his children didn’t need to be with him as he said they were both “busy.”
However, they immediately met up with family at the hospital, with Taylor moving in with her father for the summer while he recovered, She said on the podcast, “He said something about like when a cat is injured, it curls up around a tree and heals itself. I was like, ‘Dad, cats don’t have quintuple bypass.”
Travis replied, “He tried to relate, he tried.” Taylor then shared what happened when her dad woke up from his surgery.
“It’s my mom, my brother and me and his best friend. He did like a comedy act, a comedy set for 15 minutes. He was the funniest he’s ever been, and he’s usually really funny,” she said.
Scott made one joke after being told he’d had five blockages removed, telling those gathered, “Well, you see, I come from a very competitive family.”
Taylor admitted, “It was kind of wild because it was like, very parent-child reversal in a lot of ways. My brother and my mom and I were each taking shifts in the ICU and staying with him 24/7.”
Taylor admitted it was “surreal” as she revealed her dad couldn’t walk on his own after the surgery. “We had a little harness for my dad, just like walking dad on his harness,” she recalled.
She said her family all “moved in” with Scott during the summer to help as he recovered. The Blank Space hitmaker said, “I’m like, this dude built play sets and swing sets and cribs for me. I’m building his shower chair and his walker, and his bed that goes like this,” as she gestured an accessible bed.
