Police are appealing for any information as they search for baby Emmanuel Haro in Yucaipa California after his mother reported that he was kidnapped when she was attacked while changing his diaper
A seven-month-old baby boy has reportedly been kidnapped after his mother was attacked outside a store in Yucaipa, California.
According to police, the incident happened on Thursday at around 7.40 pm. Rebecca Haro was visiting a nearby football stadium with her baby boy, Emmanuel Haro, and two of her other children to watch youth football. The mother said she had to go to a Big 5 to purchase a mouthguard for her stepson and that when she got to the parking lot she noticed the baby’s diaper needed changing.
Rebecca told authorities that she laid Emmanuel down in the back seat of her car to change his diaper when she was suddenly attacked from behind. It comes as a missing man was rescued from an underground septic tank after his cries for help were heard.
I got him out of the car seat, and I laid him down so I could get his diaper ready … all I remember, I saw white … I fell on the floor, and as soon as I got up, I couldnt find my son, she told ABC7.
Panicked, she searched the area and asked store staff for help but could not locate him. Emmanuels father, Jake Haro, appealed to the public for help. He was a healthy baby, he was crawling, he was kicking, he was playing with his toys. Whoever took our son, please give him back, he said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department has launched an extensive search, deploying K9 units and scent-tracking dogs to locate Emmanuel and any suspects. Everybody came, Rebecca said. The dogs, the helicopters.
Officials describe the baby as wearing a black Nike onesie, weighing about 21 pounds, approximately 24 inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and cross-eyed.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward immediately. If you know anything, please come forward or take him to the cops, Rebecca said. Please come and bring my son back. Im begging you.
An AMBER Alert, urgent public notification system used to help find abducted children, has not been activated because the case did not meet the criteria as there is no suspect or vehicle description. Named after Amber Hagerman, a young girl who was kidnapped and murdered in Texas in 1996, the system quickly shares information about the child, suspected abductor, and any vehicle involved.
Alerts are broadcast through TV, radio, social media, highway signs, and mobile devices, aiming to get the publics eyes and ears on the lookout. The goal is to recover the child safely as quickly as possible, often within hours of the disappearance.
“Investigators continue their search for the 7-month-old baby boy who was reportedly kidnapped last night in Yucaipa,” The San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department wrote in an update posted to X on Friday night. “The child has not been found, and our investigators will continue to work on this case to locate the child,” they said.
