EXCLUSIVE: There’s more to the Duchess than meets the eye, and the Brits have gotten wise to her, it’s the Americans who are a step behind, says royal biographer.
Sarah Ferguson is embraced by the American public as someone who is fun and energetic, but that’ not quite the case in the UK, with Britons seeing the Duchess from a different perspective, says one royal expert.
Andrew Lownie claims Fergie has been exploiting her royal status for personal gain through her publishing and business endeavors.
Lownie, author of the bombshell biography Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, sheds light on the contrasting views between American royal watchers and Brits who grew up with the monarchy.
He further commented: “The British perception is that she is a limpet on the Royal Family, she’s very vulgar, she’s exploited her royal position, and she’s a bit of a fraud.”
Ferguson has authored over 70 books, often with the help of a ghostwriter, and runs a lifestyle store named The Duchess Collection.

Lownie offers his evaluation of what he observes as inappropriate behavior, suggesting that Sarah is misusing her title and the Royal Family.
He clarified: “She uses the title Duchess, and she’s not been married to the Duke for almost 30 years, and she still uses the title, in fact, she was using the HRH (Her Royal Highness), which she was deprived of when they got divorced, and all of her marketing is around The Duchess Collection, and stuff like that.”

He added: “She is absolutely blatantly exploiting being a royal for commercial gain.”
Lownie sees similarities between Sarah and Meghan Markle, because both wanted to be “half in, half out,” and enjoy the perks of being a royal, and that Sarah could have been an “early role model” for the Duchess of Sussex, but with a “bit more charm.”
But, he does see a difference, in which he expanded on: The difference between Meghan Markle, on both sides of the Atlantic, I think the Americans have gotten wise to Meghan, but I dont think theyve gotten wise to Fergie, yet.
