In a surprising twist, Carson Beck, the standout quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs, is reportedly planning to return to college football next season—but with a team other than Georgia. This unexpected development comes less than two weeks after Beck announced his intention to enter the 2025 NFL Draft, leaving fans and analysts alike speculating about his future.

The news broke on Thursday, leaving the college football community abuzz. Beck has officially entered the transfer portal, marking a significant shift in his plans. ESPN’s Pete Thamel shed light on the situation during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, naming the Miami Hurricanes as the early favorite to secure Beck’s services for the 2025 season.

“My quick brush on making some calls on this today is that Miami would loom as the favorite for Carson Beck,” Thamel explained. “They, right now, don’t have an incumbent starter at quarterback. Mario Cristobal has shown an affinity for bringing in established talent, as we saw with Cam Ward last year.”

Ward, who could potentially be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, took a similar path by initially declaring for the draft before transferring from Washington State to Miami. This precedent adds credibility to Miami’s pursuit of Beck.

Thamel noted, however, that Beck’s recovery from elbow surgery could be a factor in his decision. Beck sustained the injury during the SEC Championship Game and is expected to miss part of spring practice.

“There obviously is gonna be the lingering issue of Beck’s elbow, which would probably cause him to miss part of spring,” Thamel said. “You may have to adjust spring around him. But if you’re handicapping where he could go, Miami certainly stands out as a leading option.”

Other potential destinations for Beck include Texas Tech, also mentioned by Thamel, and Ohio State. Pete Nakos of On3 reported that Ohio State could be a serious contender, given that the Buckeyes are preparing for a new starting quarterback in 2025 with Will Howard heading to the NFL.

Beck has impressive credentials, having thrown for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions during his second full season as Georgia’s starter. Despite undergoing elbow surgery, his performance on the field has made him a highly sought-after player in the transfer market.

Another factor potentially influencing Beck’s decision is his personal life. He has been dating a well-known athlete who attends the University of Miami, which could make the Hurricanes an even more appealing choice.

As the transfer saga unfolds, college football fans will be closely watching where Carson Beck ultimately lands. His decision is poised to make a significant impact on the 2025 season and reshape the landscape of college football yet again.
