LAFC star Son Heung-Min is seemingly loving life in the U.S. as he prepares to demonstrate his newfound baseball skills when he throws the ceremonial first pitch at an upcoming LA Dodgers game
Just two weeks into his MLS career, LAFCs Son Heung-Min is fully embracing his new home nation by trying his hand at Americas pastime.
Son, who recently joined the Black and Gold in an MLS record deal after a decade in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, is set to throw the ceremonial first pitch at the LA Dodgers upcoming home game against the Cincinnati Reds on August 27 at Dodger Stadium.
Upon announcing the news on Thursday, LAFC shared a highlight video of Son practicing his pitching at practice together with veteran defender Ryan Hollingshead. Yesterday was my first day. It was actually not too bad. Distance is a bit far actually, Son told team media.
Clearly impressed, Hollinshead said, First off, hes looking good. Good form. Good rotation. Tons of confidence. After some practice under the sun in LA, Son seemed to have it figured out, commenting, Just soft. Then its easy.
Sons skills not only impressed Hollinghead but also fans on social media, with one commenting, Actually…he’s pretty good, right? while a second replied, With this bullpen, we might need him to throw in an inning or two. As another added simply, LA suits him so much.
Son making his way to Dodger Stadium will give him the opportunity to meet Hyeseong Kim and Tommy Edman, who gave him a warm welcome upon signing for LAFC.
First, I want to congratulate you for joining LAFC, Kim commented in a video shared by the Dodgers. I love soccer, so Im a huge fan of yours, but to know that were both playing in Los Angeles is an honor, and it makes me happy. I will continue to root for your success in LA.
Meanwhile, Edman added, I just wanted to welcome you to the city of Los Angeles. Were really fired up to have you here, I know the fans are going to love you, and youre going to love your time here as well. I cant wait to see you at a Dodgers game soon, and Im hoping to make it out to an LAFC game.
Life in LA has gotten off to a strong start for Son, who recently opened up on his aim to emulate a Premier League legend in this latest chapter in his career, having already racked up two assists in as many appearances for Steve Cherundolos side, including in their latest 2-0 win at the New England Revolution.
Im enjoying every single day and every single second, especially when you win the game away from home, he told Apple TV after the game. It tastes even better, and Im enjoying every single moment, as I said. We have a lot of games ahead, so I have to prepare well and enjoy even more.
The South Korean international is set to return to action on Saturday as they travel to Texas to face FC Dallas, before they host the Western Conference leaders, San Diego FC, a week later.
