A young couple were left completely speechless when they decided to rip up the carpet in their new home – and they couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw what was underneath

Posting on TikTok Emily Atkins has been documenting the ups and downs of renovating your own home and how your house could actually be concealing some hidden secrets, reports the Mirror.
Having viewed their future home more than a year ago and putting an offer in just a month later, the couple only recently made the move official where they began their big plans for renovations – including an extension and knocking a few walls down for modern open plan living.
But before all that one of their first jobs was to tear up their somewhat dated shaggy green carpet.
And just as they began ripping it up from their doorway they discovered “a renovator’s dream” In a video that has now racked up over 40 million views, the couple unveiled a stunning period-style hardwood herringbone flooring hidden beneath the green carpet.
Emily shared in the video’s caption: “we peeled the carpet back in all other rooms and it was just normal floorboards so we imagined the same for the hallway too – when I’d set up filming for the daily vlog I captured this. So happy.”
In a follow-up video, she said: “It was a beautiful herring-bone with a border, so we’re going to finish sanding and we just need to go in with a varnish, but it is in a really good quality, we’re really really impressed with it and very lucky.”
Addressing potential worries, Emily confirmed there were no visible holes along the edges where the carpet had been nailed, saying, “Some people did have concerns about the edges where the carpet was nailed there would be some holes, but there isn’t any we’ve been really lucky.”
But the surprises didn’t stop there for the couple, as Emily excitedly added: “The upstairs we didn’t think would be the same but wow, we are obsessed.”
Fans below the video were equally amazed, one said: “You’re so lucky. This will have saved you a small fortune. So pleased for you,” while another added: “Why on earth would somebody cover this, we’ve got herringbone karndean throughout downstairs with a black tramline, you’re very lucky to have such a great feature!”.
