Kanye West has been surrounded by controversy over the past few months after his anti-Semitic rants, but that’s not the reason Chance the Rapper gave for them losing touch
Kanye West has lost touch with a number of close pals in recent years, with one of them now speaking out to explain why.
Chance the Rapper has known Kanye for years and even co-wrote and featured on several tracks on the album The Life of Pablo. However, the pair have lost touch recently as Chance, real name Chancelor Bennett, revealed he’s just been too busy to reach out.
During an appearance on the New Rory & Mal podcast, the hip-hop star said he won’t be appearing on Kanye’s new album. “There’s nothing from those sessions on this album,” he began.
Chance continued, “There was one that could’ve been raw. And I was gonna say… honesty is the best policy – I haven’t talked to him in a long time.”
Despite the distance between the pair, Chance still praised his friend. He told the podcast hosts, “He’s one of the most influential people in my music. He was at my wedding, our kids have hung out together. I’ll always love Kanye, but just being honest, I haven’t talked to him in a while.”
He explained, “I feel like I’ve been hella busy – I’m working on s—. He’s obviously been busy. I be trying not to take opportunities to diss motherf—— or add too much to the story.”
Despite praising Kanye, Chance seemed to suggest they won’t be reconnecting any time soon. “I let people be people. I’m always gonna have my own opinions and I’ma always state my opinions,” he shared.
The rapper added, “For the most part, I’ma just be me, I’ma let people be them. And so no, there’s not a time where I’m like, ‘Man, I gotta make sure I hit up Kanye before I put this album out or after I put this album out,’ or anybody.”
Kanye and Chance’s drifting apart comes following a lot of controversy for the Flashing Lights hitmaker. Kanye has faced widespread criticism after sharing anti-Semitic views on X, in which he shared his love for Adolf Hitler.
Following his racist outbursts, Kanye has faced calls to be dropped from a number of shows and festivals he was scheduled to appear at. This included Rubicon Festival, which ultimately canceled the event, citing “media pressure and the withdrawal of several artists and partners.”
